Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza

For the first time in Spain, Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza presents a retrospective on Alex Katz (b. 1927), on view through September 11th. Curated by Guillermo Solana, the museum’s artistic director, the exhibition includes 40 large-format oils accompanied by various studies, offering a survey of all of the artist’s most recurrent themes: his individual, double and group portraits, as well as his distinctive flowers and sweeping landscapes. With an unwavering dedication to large-format painting, Katz has maintained the same intensity and prolificness throughout his entire career. “Nothing has been able to stop this nearly hundred-year-old creator, who is in great physical and mental shape, painting large format works, and who has become an undeniable benchmark of contemporary painting,” says Guillermo Solana.
