The Centre Pompidou

Jim Dine’s Sawhorse Piece, 1968-1969, is now on view at The Centre Pompidou in Paris on the occasion of the installation of its permanent collection. Composed of two painted canvases resting on wooden trestles, the iconic sculpture is placed within a scattered assortment of items from the artist’s studio in Montrouge.

Sawhorse Piece was most recently exhibited in the artist's 2018 solo survey, Paris Reconnaissance, which presented the generous donation of paintings and sculptures Dine gifted to the Musée National d’Art Moderne that same year. "France has given me so much that it seemed the natural thing to do," Dine said of his donation. "It’s a gesture of gratitude for French culture, painting and history, for the deep and long-lasting connections I’ve had with people … There’s nowhere else I’ve so much enjoyed being."
