GRAY congratulates Torkwase Dyson on her forthcoming participation in the 2024 Whitney Biennial: Even Better Than the Real Thing. For the exhibition Dyson will debut a sculpture installation on the 5th Floor Terrace. Dyson’s installation will include a major sculpture installation on the 5th Floor Terrace titled Liquid Shadows, Solid Dreams: (A Monastic Playground) as well as drawings and an animation.
The Whitney Biennial—a showcase of what’s new in American art—returns to the Whitney for its eighty-first installment in March 2024. Introduced in 1932 by the Museum’s founder, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, the Biennial charts developments in art of the United States and is the longest-running exhibition of its kind. To date, more than 3,600 influential and innovative artists have participated in a Whitney Biennial or Annual.
The 2024 Whitney Biennial is organized by Chrissie Iles and Meg Onli, with Min Sun Jeon and Beatriz Cifuentes. The performance program is organized by Iles and Onli, with guest curator Taja Cheek. The film program is organized by Iles and Onli, with guest curators Korakrit Arunanondchai, asinnajaq, Greg de Cuir Jr, and Zackary Drucker.
GRAY will present the gallery’s first major solo exhibition with Torkwase Dyson in the Fall of 2024.
